Today is the first post... I feel so much performance anxiety!

It is International Literacy Day today and I'm celebrating by reading Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed.
Here's a little snippet:

"Not infrequently, revolutionaries themselves become reactionary by falling into sectarianism in the process of responding to the sectarianism of the Right. This possibility, however, should not lead the radical to become a docile pawn of the elites. Engaged in the process of liberation, he or she cannot remain passive in the face of the oppressor's violence."

I'm a worker bee. I work, essentially for the man, teaching classes for welfare recipients, disabled and dislocated workers. Some days its just plain fucked up. I'm in Madison WI, home of tommy t's great welfare-ending extravaganza, known as 'Wisconsin Works' or W-2 to us in the biz.

Today I'm going to go to an awards ceremony for a deaf student I work with in the evenings who is earning his GED.
